The bodies of three teenage girls who went missing while fishing along the Missouri River in Nebraska have been recovered, authorities confirmed.
Lah Tray Moo, 18, Lainana Green, 18, and Eh Cress Moo, 12, vanished on April 15 while fishing near the river in north Omaha with another girl. Authorities said the girls entered the river to retrieve a lost item and were swept away by the current.
“They got swept out by the current,” said Public Information Officer Spencer Head. “The Missouri in that stretch is a very dangerous stretch of river.”
The final two bodies were found Tuesday morning after the first was discovered Saturday night. A fourth girl, 13, was hospitalized in serious condition.
“We’re thankful that we have them now,” said Lainana’s aunt, Nichelle Griffy.
Community advocate Chrome Louis emphasized the need for public awareness. “The average person doesn’t know how seriously dangerous this river is,” he said.
