Nigeria has introduced a fully digital e-Visa regime and automated landing and exit card system as part of reforms under the Nigeria 2025 Visa Policy.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) announced the development in a statement issued Friday in Abuja by its spokesperson, Akinsola Akinlabi. The initiative, effective from May 1, 2025, is a collaboration between the NIS and the Federal Ministry of Interior.

“The new e-Visa platform introduces 13 categories under the Short Visit Visa (SVV) class,” the statement said. Applications will be processed within 48 hours, and successful applicants will receive e-Visas via email.

The NIS confirmed visa-on-arrival will be discontinued from May 1, with current visas valid until May 30.

The policy includes overstay penalties starting September 1: “A daily fine of $15 will apply… a five-year entry ban for overstays of three months, and permanent blacklisting for one year or more.”
