“We can see what it would take for Ukraine to stop. We can see what it would take for the Russians to stop… [but] those two positions are still a little far apart.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Russia and Ukraine remain far from reaching a peace agreement. In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Rubio said, “We can see what it would take for Ukraine to stop. We can see what it would take for the Russians to stop… [but] those two positions are still a little far apart.” He emphasized the U.S. won’t abandon peace efforts but acknowledged that a “real breakthrough” is needed.

Rubio, recently appointed interim national security adviser, also highlighted the signing of a delayed mineral deal with Ukraine as a significant success. “It’s good for America… It’s also good for Ukraine because it’s going to help them… rebuild when this war ends,” he said.

The agreement, postponed after a tense meeting between President Trump and President Zelenskyy, was finalized Wednesday. It grants U.S. access to key natural resources. Meanwhile, Trump grows increasingly frustrated by the ongoing conflict.
