PDP Crisis Worsens: Senator Bob leads BoT exodus to ruling APC

“An outstanding political leader, he is set to join the ruling APC with his supporters and associates, and he is leaving after 28 years of fidelity to the party.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faces another major blow as Senator Effiong Bob, a Board of Trustees member and former Akwa Ibom North Central Senator, finalizes plans to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Sources reveal Bob’s decision stems from frustration over PDP’s internal crises, particularly the unresolved tussle for National Secretary position that threatens the party’s 2027 election prospects.

A close associate confirmed: “Senator Bob…has concluded plans to defect to the APC after 28 years of fidelity to the party.” The defection comes amid fears of PDP repeating APC’s 2023 Zamfara experience where court rulings invalidated all party candidates. More BoT members are reportedly following Bob, with former VP Atiku Abubakar also considering alternative platforms for his presidential ambition.

Bob, a key ally of Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno and former Senate Finance Committee Chairman, will be the first high-profile BoT member to exit PDP. His move signals growing discontent among party stalwarts over leadership crises. “We don’t want to risk wholesale cancellation of nominations,” an associate stated, referencing PDP’s ongoing signature controversy that could invalidate future election participation.
