The soldiers also complained that they were being forced to confront Boko Haram and bandits…they alleged that many of their colleagues had been killed by terrorists due to poor firepower and inadequate equipment to combat the insurgents.

Suspected terrorists have attacked and destroyed a Nigerian military outpost in Jangebe, Zamfara State – the same community where 279 schoolgirls were abducted in 2021. The pre-dawn assault occurred around 3am Saturday, with insurgents overpowering soldiers due to reported ammunition shortages and lack of armored vehicles. A military source told SaharaReporters“Bandits attacked the soldiers and dislodged them…they burnt down the location.” One injured soldier was evacuated to 1 Brigade HQ hospital.
The attack highlights growing security vulnerabilities, with troops complaining of extended deployments without rotation and inadequate equipment. “Soldiers put in their best but there was lack of ammunition…no support weapons,” the source revealed. This comes as insurgents increasingly target military bases – just last month, terrorists overran a Katsina outpost using similar tactics. Jangebe remains infamous for the 2021 mass abduction at Government Girls Science Secondary School, signaling persistent insecurity in the region.

Frontline troops have repeatedly warned about deteriorating conditions, alleging that poor logistics and low morale enable terrorist victories. “Many colleagues have been killed due to poor firepower,” one soldier lamented. The Zamfara attack underscores Nigeria’s worsening counterinsurgency crisis, with bandits now boldly assaulting military installations. Authorities have yet to comment on potential reinforcements to the overstretched Jangebe detachment as the rainy season offensive looms.
