App-based transport drivers in Lagos are threatening to abandon global platforms like Uber, Bolt, inDrive, and Lagride over what they describe as exploitative working conditions.

The Public Relations Officer of the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON), Steven Iwindoye, said on Friday that drivers demand a reduction of commission rates to 5%, improved safety, and respect for drivers’ rights.

“If these companies fail to comply, we will move en masse to indigenous app firms willing to meet our demands. Three such apps are already operational,” Iwindoye said.

He added that May Day’s 24-hour service shutdown was “the beginning of a new phase of organized resistance” in the industry.

AUATON has petitioned the National Assembly, and the Lagos chapter plans to petition the state legislature.

Drivers also protest arbitrary account deactivations and facial recognition requirements. The union said further actions, including picketing, will follow if their demands are ignored.
