Meanwhile, some party leaders blamed Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 ambition for fueling the crisis.
Efforts to rescue the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from internal disarray ahead of the 2027 elections have advanced, as governors and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike reached a tentative agreement in Lagos last week.
According to sources, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde met Wike on behalf of PDP governors to address lingering disputes involving the Rivers crisis, South-South leadership, and the stalled appointment of a National Secretary.
“Makinde and Wike met in Lagos… Wike expressed concerns about the Governors Forum’s recommendations, claiming they were made without considering party laws,” a source told Sunday PUNCH.
The two leaders reportedly agreed to de-escalate tensions, push for legal case withdrawals, and revisit controversial party decisions.
Meanwhile, some party leaders blamed Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 ambition for fueling the crisis.
But his media aide, Paul Ibe, said, “Atiku is not stopping anyone from running… People are simply looking for scapegoats.”
The talks are seen as crucial for stabilising the PDP after defections to the APC and growing internal frustration.
