Senate President Godswill Akpabio has faced sharp criticism after reportedly withdrawing from a presidential panel probing sexual harassment allegations made against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Political pressure group, The Action Collective (AC), in a statement signed by its coordinator, Dr. Onimisi Ibrahim, questioned Akpabio’s silence and demanded accountability.

“This development has triggered widespread speculation across the country. We are surprised to hear that Senator Akpabio has withdrawn from the investigation panel without offering any official explanation,” the group said.

The panel, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima and formed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on April 2, includes top officials and representatives from both parties.

AC suggested Akpabio cited “undue interference” and distrust in the panel’s neutrality but challenged whether he was questioning the presidency itself.

Critics have also condemned the Senate’s suspension of Akpoti-Uduaghan during the ongoing investigation, calling it an attempt to suppress the matter.

The group urged civil society to ensure transparency and praised Tinubu’s move to establish the panel.
