The arrest of social media influencer Martins Otse has sparked street protests in the nation’s capital, with demonstrators calling for his immediate release.

A group of youths took to the streets of Abuja on Monday to demand the immediate release of Martins Otse, a popular activist and social media influencer widely known as Very Dark Man (VDM).

Otse was reportedly arrested after accompanying his mother to a branch of Guarantee Trust Bank (GTBank) in Abuja to address issues concerning his account. While the circumstances surrounding his arrest remain unclear, his detention has sparked public outrage and mobilized supporters.

The demonstrators, in significant numbers, gathered at the junction leading to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Jabi, Abuja, chanting slogans and carrying placards.

“He’s not a thief, Now VDM has blocked the road, Release VDM,” they chanted in unison.
