President Donald Trump has called for the “total dismantlement” of Iran’s nuclear program, warning that a nuclear-armed Tehran would be catastrophic. “The only thing they can’t have is a nuclear weapon,” Trump said Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press.
Talks scheduled in Rome between U.S. and Iranian officials were postponed, amid rising tensions. Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed Trump’s stance, urging Iran to halt uranium enrichment and end support for terror groups like Yemen’s Houthis.
While both Trump and Rubio are open to a civilian nuclear program in Iran under strict inspections, Rubio insisted uranium should be imported, not enriched locally.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed U.S. statements as “falsehoods,” asserting Iran’s rights under the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized the administration’s approach, warning of potential war. Meanwhile, Trump reassigned Mike Waltz, a preemptive strike advocate, to a U.N. role and hinted at new sanctions targeting Iran’s oil trade.
