The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that social media activist Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan (VDM), will be freed once he fulfills his bail terms. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale told BBC News Pidgin“We will release him if he meets his bail conditions, and we will take the case to court as soon as possible.” The arrest followed multiple petitions alleging misconduct.

VDM’s arrest in Abuja has sparked online backlash, with critics accusing the EFCC of targeting dissent. Meanwhile, youths staged protests in the capital demanding his immediate release. Oyewale clarified: “We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised by petitioners.” The case highlights growing tensions between authorities and social media influencers.
