Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has thrown his weight behind Peter Obi for a potential 2027 presidential run, calling him the only candidate with ‘capacity and integrity’ while dismissing early election discussions as misguided.
Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has reaffirmed his support for Peter Obi if the Labour Party leader contests the 2027 presidential election, though he dismissed early campaign discussions as premature. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Farotimi emphasized Obi’s credentials while warning against electoral distractions amid Nigeria’s crises.
“If elections where our votes will count were held today, I would vote for Peter Gregory Obi, unless somebody else enters the race who I believe can do better,” Farotimi stated. “If it’s still the same line-up as last time, I will definitely be voting for Peter Obi.” He praised Obi’s integrity but urged bolder policy platforms.
Farotimi admitted his stance could shift only under “something drastic,” such as objectionable alliances, but stressed: “Outside of that, there’s no one else.”
The lawyer criticized Nigeria’s focus on 2027 politics, calling it “a disservice” given current challenges. “We really cannot speak of elections in our current circumstances,” he argued, linking his support for Obi to broader hopes for national renewal.
