FCT doctors stage 3-day warning strike over alleged abscondment

This kind of toxic and bureaucratic recklessness cannot be allowed to continue.

The Association of Resident Doctors, FCTA (ARD-FCTA), commenced a three-day warning strike today, May 6, 2025, over the non-payment of April salaries to 127 members. In a letter to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, ARD-FCTA decried the Civil Service Commission’s action, accusing it of tagging affected workers as absconders after a staff verification exercise.

“We observe with deep anger and utmost disappointment the arbitrary and unjust withholding of April salaries,” the letter signed by Dr. George Ebong and Dr. Agbor Affiong stated.

The association demanded immediate salary payment, reinstatement to the payroll, a written apology, and the resignation of Commission Chairman, Engr. Emeka Ezeh.

“The utterances of the Civil Service Commission range from threatening words to mockery,” the letter added.

While commending Minister Wike for infrastructure reforms and approving 315 healthcare hires, ARD-FCTA urged swift implementation.

“If all the above demands are not met… we shall proceed on an indefinite strike,” the association warned.
