Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has commissioned a 30 MVA power substation constructed by Geometric Power Limited in Ogbor Hill, Aba, Abia State. Obasanjo lauded Geometric Power and Governor Alex Otti for their commitment to reliable electricity in the Aba ring-fenced area. “Aba is the centre of industry, and it declined due to lack of power. Now, I am happy with what Geometric Power has become,” he said, urging expansion to Umuahia and eight other LGAs.
Governor Otti recalled his support for the project’s revival and commended Obasanjo for granting its original license. He pledged to extend surplus power to Umuahia and revealed ongoing plans to acquire the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.
Chairman of Geometric Group, Prof. Barth Nnaji, provided an overview of the Aba Integrated Power Project, appreciating support from current and past leaders. Managing Director of Aba Power Limited, Barr. Ugochukwu Opiegbe, added that mass metering would soon begin within the Aba distribution zone.
