Peter Obi criticizes Nigeria’s leadership, calling governance a “crime scene” as he donates N20m to a nursing school in Enugu.
RIPPLES NIGERIA
Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has launched a searing critique of Nigeria’s political leadership, describing the country’s governance as a “crime scene.”
Speaking Tuesday at the Godfrey Okoye School of Nursing Sciences in Enugu, where he donated N20 million, Obi said politicians are enriching themselves while citizens suffer.
“It is not easy to be working in our country today, because those who work are not cared for… the government officials and politicians are busy stealing up the money,” he said.
Obi cited World Bank and UNICEF reports highlighting poverty and malnutrition, and noted Nigeria’s shortage of healthcare workers. “We’ve turned governance into a crime scene… Instead of using the resources to do the right thing, we’re using it to do the wrong thing,” he added.
He urged nursing students to serve rural communities and praised faith-based groups: “What you people are doing is what we are supposed to be doing in government.”
Bishop Callistus Onaga thanked Obi, saying, “Your dream of Nigeria must come through.”
