India launched missiles into Pakistani-controlled territory on Wednesday, killing one person and injuring two others, Pakistani officials said.
The strike targeted at least nine sites “where terrorist attacks against India have been planned,” according to a statement from India. A Pakistani security official told The Associated Press that a missile struck a mosque in Bahawalpur, Punjab, killing a child and injuring a man and a woman.
The missile strike follows a recent militant attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir, where 26 tourists were killed and more than a dozen injured 15 days ago. India accused Pakistan of being involved in that attack—an allegation Islamabad denied.
The two nuclear-armed nations have long been at odds over the disputed Kashmir region. This story is still developing.
