“While it sounds impressive, we’ll need to see how it performs in real-world applications.”

Baidu, the owner of China’s largest search engine, has filed a patent with the China National Intellectual Property Administration for an AI-driven system that could translate animal sounds into human language.
The patent document, published this week, outlines a process to gather animal vocalisations, behaviours and physiological signals, which an AI model would analyse to identify emotional states.
Those states would then be rendered in human words to enhance “the accuracy and efficiency of cross-species communication”. The project remains “still in the research stage”, but has already generated significant interest amid growing fascination with animal translation technologies.
