Sir Keir Starmer secured a historic UK-US trade deal slashing Trump-era tariffs. Hailed by both leaders, it protects British industries while opening markets for US ethanol and beef exports.

Sir Keir Starmer has secured a landmark UK-US trade agreement with President Donald Trump, slashing tariffs on key British exports in what both leaders hailed as a historic breakthrough.

The deal cuts US tariffs on British cars from 27.5% to 10% for up to 100,000 vehicles and removes duties on steel and aluminium. In return, the UK will eliminate its tariff on US ethanol and fast-track American beef imports.

“This is a fantastic, historic day,” said Starmer. “It will boost British businesses and save thousands of jobs.”

President Trump called it a “great deal for both countries” and praised Starmer’s leadership, saying the UK-US bond would be “stronger than ever before”.

No 10 insisted UK food standards would remain intact, amid concerns over hormone-treated beef.

The agreement follows last week’s UK-India trade deal and precedes a planned EU deal, marking a major diplomatic win for Starmer despite criticism from Tory leader Kemi Badenoch, who claimed Britain had been “shafted.”
