The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a syndicate producing fake and expired alcoholic drinks in Lagos.
Acting on intelligence, officials raided a site where Mr. Madu Abuchi Simon was caught falsifying brands like Hennessy, Baileys, and Martell. Expired Amarula, branded bottles, stickers, and chemicals used for cleaning bottles were seized.
“The suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended by law enforcement,” NAFDAC said. Over 100 cartons of adulterated drinks, worth more than N114 million, were confiscated and the premises sealed.
“NAFDAC strongly advises the public to buy alcoholic products only from reputable vendors and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest NAFDAC office,” the agency warned.
The agency affirmed its commitment to public safety. “This operation underscores the Agency’s resolve to clamp down on unscrupulous elements endangering public health,” it added.
