Gunmen have killed Comrade Jerry Jeremiah, an APC youth leader from Apa LGA, and Chief Adejo Anthony Denison, the District Head of Odugbeho in Agatu LGA, while they were working on their farms in Otukpo LGA. The attack occurred Wednesday along the Otukpo-Otobi-Akpa Road, just a day after another APC chieftain and six others were murdered in separate attacks in Gwer East and Makurdi. Eyewitnesses said the farmland, though in Otukpo, is frequently leased by farmers from neighboring areas.
Agatu LGA Chairman Mavis James Ejeh confirmed the traditional ruler’s death, urging calm. “Chief Tony Adejo was killed while working on his farm. We advise our people not to retaliate but to cooperate with security agencies,” Ejeh said. Former Agatu officials John Ikwulono and Olikita Ekani mourned the victims as influential community leaders.
Benue Police Spokesperson CSP Catherine Anene said she had not yet received an official report. The killings highlight rising insecurity in the state’s farming communities.
