A tragic accident during a high school lacrosse game has claimed the life of 16-year-old Dylan Veselic, a sophomore at Bay Village High School in Ohio.
Veselic died on Thursday, two days after being struck in the head by a shot from an opponent. Despite undergoing surgery, he succumbed to his injuries.
The community is in shock, and Veselic’s family is grieving. “We are deeply touched by the overwhelming support and kindness shown by our community and beyond,” the family said in a statement. “We ask that you continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
Bay Village Schools Superintendent Scot Prebles described Veselic as “a dedicated student and athlete, and we are heartbroken by this loss.” The school is offering counseling services to students, staff, and family members.
Veselic was known for his kindness, hard work, and leadership. “Dylan was an amazing student, always wearing a smile on his face while supporting his fellow teammates,” said Bay Village athletic director Matt Spellman. A fundraiser in Veselic’s honor has raised over $80,000, exceeding its initial goal of $500. The team has canceled games and held a prayer service in his memory.
