I believe in one president. I believe in turn-by-turn. When it’s your turn, I will support you. When it’s not your turn, step back—so that the country can move forward.
Former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan has ruled out any return to Aso Rock, declaring instead that she will campaign alongside First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at an Abuja awards ceremony where she received the Women Icon Leader of the Year honour, Jonathan endorsed Nigeria’s rotational leadership model, calling it crucial for national unity.
“I was supposed to call her first, but I saved her for last: the daughter of our wonderful President, the one and only we believe in—President Bola Tinubu,” she said, addressing Iyaloja-General Folashade Tinubu-Ojo. “All the way, we are with you. No shaking. We will follow.”
She emphasized her loyalty to the Tinubus, recalling their support during her husband’s 2011 presidential bid. “I have a conscience. I cannot abandon my friend,” she stated. “This is turn by turn. Today is my turn—I will go. Tomorrow, it will be another person’s turn.”
She insisted that rather than return to Aso Rock, she would support the First Lady and her husband.
