Former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan has declared she will not seek a return to Aso Rock in 2027, instead pledging her support to First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu and President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking after President Tinubu’s daughter, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, received the Women Icon Leader of the Year award on Saturday in Abuja, Jonathan said: “I believe in one president. I believe in turn-by-turn. When it’s your turn, I will support you.”
Jonathan emphasized her longstanding friendship with Mrs. Tinubu, recalling mutual support during her time as First Lady and even before. She said, “I’m not denying her. I’m not running. I’m not going back to the villa. If you call me, I will not go.”
Praising the Tinubus’ leadership and affirming her trust in the “turn-by-turn” principle for national unity, Jonathan added: “Let my friend be there. Let me also ‘wahala’ her the way she used to ‘wahala’ me when I was there!”
