An elderly man accidentally crashed his car into the alcohol store room of Rise Market & Bakery in Bridport, Dorset, after reportedly mistaking the accelerator for the brake.
According to owner Nikki Craven, 49, the Honda vehicle smashed through the side of the building shortly after leaving the nearby Wash’N’Drive car wash, causing over £10,000 in damages. “Less than half an hour before, one of the staff was restocking the room, but we’re just glad that no one was hurt,” Craven said.
The collision destroyed hundreds of bottles of beer, wine, and spirits. No staff or customers were injured. The driver, believed to be in his 70s or 80s, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Dorset Police confirmed no arrests were made. The bakery is awaiting insurance assessment before reopening the damaged section. “Accidents happen… but luckily everyone is whole,” Rise Bakery stated on Instagram.
