Liam Delap looks set to leave Ipswich Town this summer with a £30m release clause now active in his contract. The 21-year-old has impressed in his debut Premier League season, scoring 12 goals for the relegated Tractor Boys. Newcastle United are keen to add Delap as cover for Alexander Isak, while Chelsea and Manchester United also hold strong interest.
According to TalkSport, Delap is “edging towards a move to Old Trafford,” preferring a return to the northwest after his rise through Manchester City’s academy.
“Wherever Delap ends up this summer will leave a couple of clubs disappointed,” reports suggest, with Chelsea and Newcastle among those most likely to miss out.
A move to United would also boost Delap’s England hopes and see City benefit via a sell-on clause.
Chelsea, meanwhile, will be without Nicolas Jackson at the start of next season after his red card against Newcastle. Delap’s future could be sealed as early as June 1, when the transfer window opens briefly.
