“China runs a one party system & it works for them” ~ Ganduje
The Kano State Government has issued a thinly veiled rebuke to APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje’s advocacy for a one-party system, drawing parallels with China’s harsh anti-corruption measures. In a Facebook post, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa quoted Ganduje’s praise of China’s political model, then added: “China also executes corrupt politicians & it works for them very well.” The remark is widely seen as a dig at Ganduje’s own corruption allegations during his Kano governorship.
The APC chairman had recently proposed Nigeria emulate China’s one-party structure, ignoring its severe consequences for graft. The suggestion revived memories of Ganduje’s 2018 scandal, where viral videos allegedly showed him stuffing dollar bribes into his robe. While the post didn’t name Ganduje directly, its timing and context have been interpreted as a deliberate critique of his controversial tenure.
Political analysts view the exchange as exposing tensions within the APC, with Kano’s NNPP-led government seizing an opportunity to highlight perceived hypocrisy. The barbed response underscores growing debates about political accountability amid calls for systemic reforms.
