Tinubu should settle N45bn debt to Abiola’s family – Lamido

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to settle the N45 billion debt allegedly owed to the family of the late Chief MKO Abiola.

Lamido made the appeal on Tuesday during the launch of his autobiography, Being True to Myself, at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.

He described the payment as a necessary symbolic act to bring closure to the June 12, 1993, presidential election crisis, in which Abiola was the presumed winner. “Before I end my remarks, I want to appeal to President Tinubu to finally close the chapter of June 12,” Lamido said.

He recalled that General Ibrahim Babangida acknowledged Abiola’s victory and confirmed the debt. Lamido said the debt stemmed from contracts executed by Abiola’s firm. “Please tell the President to pay the Abiola family the N45 billion. Once this is done, the June 12 chapter will be closed,” he added.
