Following the tragic death of a 19-year-old girl in Lagos, identified as Timilehin, mental health professionals are urging for stronger support systems for students under exam pressure. Timilehin, described by neighbours as “quiet, humble, and full of potential,” reportedly took her life after receiving a UTME score of 190—believed to be lower than her previous year’s result.

Michael Jacob, founder of Emotion Compass Academy, said, “The UTME is only one doorway out of many. If that door closes, another will open—but you must still be here to walk through it.”

Clinical psychologist Patricia Udosen noted, “Listen to your child without judgement and validate their emotions. Focus on their effort and determination, not just results.”

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has since announced a review of the 2025 UTME results due to “unusual complaints,” according to spokesperson Fabian Benjamin.
