American R&B star Chris Brown has been arrested in the United Kingdom on suspicion of a serious assault tied to an incident at a London nightclub in 2023, according to reports from The Sun and The Daily Telegraph.
The 36-year-old Grammy winner was detained by officers in the early hours of Thursday at Manchester’s Lowry Hotel after allegedly attacking music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle at Tape nightclub in Mayfair in February last year.
“A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 2am on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains,” a spokesperson for London’s Metropolitan Police told AFP.
Brown, who rose to fame as a teen, has a history of legal issues. He was convicted in 2009 of assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna before the Grammy Awards.
The singer had arrived in the UK on Wednesday via private jet ahead of upcoming tour dates.
