JIGI BOLA 2.0: FG to offer free glasses, cataract surgeries to vulnerable Nigerians

Services including free eye screenings, prescribed glasses under JIGI BOLA 2.0, cataract surgeries, and treatment of vision-related conditions will be offered.

The Federal Government will implement a fully subsidised healthcare programme to improve access to eye care services for vulnerable Nigerians in rural areas. Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Ishaq Salako, disclosed this at the 2025 Eyeball Summit in Abuja.

Under the Renewed Hope Health Connect initiative, services including free eye screenings, prescribed glasses under JIGI BOLA 2.0, cataract surgeries, and treatment of vision-related conditions will be offered.

“Services to improve eye health including screening for refractive error, provision of prescribed glasses tagged JIGI BOLA 2.0, cataract surgeries and treatment… will be provided free of charge,” Salako said.

He added that through the renamed National Eye, Ear and Other Sensory Health Programme, eye care would be integrated into primary health services.

Dr. Obinna Edwin Awiaka, Registrar of ODORBN, emphasized collaboration in health reforms. “It is only through collaboration… that we can create robust, sustainable and accessible eye care systems for all,” he stated.
