The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ikeja, has busted a transborder smuggling syndicate, seizing contraband worth ₦1.5 billion in three weeks. The Unit, acting on intelligence, intercepted seven 20-foot containers in Lagos loaded with banned items such as used tyres, foreign parboiled rice, new clothes, and shoes.
Controller Mohammed Shuaibu said, “Our team acted on credible intelligence and successfully intercepted and seized seven 20-foot containers loaded with various prohibited items across Lagos.”
Four suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure, which had a Duty Paid Value of ₦1.5bn. Other notable seizures include 4,085 bags of rice, 15 foreign-used vehicles, 82 packs of Tramadol, 246kg of Cannabis Sativa, and 290 jerry cans of PMS.
Shuaibu stated, “We will be handing over the seized cannabis to NDLEA and tramadol capsules to NAFDAC.” He affirmed the NCS’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s economy and urged the public to report suspicious activities.
