A life-size bronze statue of former US First Lady Melania Trump has gone missing from her hometown of Sevnica, Slovenia.
The statue, which replaced a wooden version burned in 2020, was unveiled during Donald Trump’s first presidential term in 2020.
According to police spokesperson Alenka Drenik Rangus, authorities were notified of the theft on Tuesday and are working to identify those responsible. A photo showed the statue had been cut off at the ankles and removed.
The original wooden version had depicted Melania in a pale blue dress, similar to her 2017 inauguration outfit.
A local baker, Franja Kranjc, commented, “I think no one was really proud at this statue, not even the first lady of the USA… so I think it’s OK that it’s removed.”
