Wahab: “Malicious attempts to vilify Lagos are counterproductive

Lagos Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has responded to comments made by media personality Scott Iguma, who criticized the high cost of living and described Lagos as “smelly” and “mosquito-infested.”

In a viral video, Iguma questioned land prices in areas like Ikoyi and Ikate, asking, “What is in the land? Are there mineral resources there?” He argued Lagos should not be compared to New York due to “open drainages and poor living conditions.”

Wahab, in a statement on X, condemned Iguma’s remarks, calling them divisive and harmful. “It is regrettable that some who relocate from their home states in pursuit of better opportunities… resort to disparaging the very state that provided them the platform to thrive,” he wrote.

He urged critics to be constructive and to scrutinize other states equally. “Dear @IgumaScott, I do hope that you will put this same energy in ‘looking out’ for other states,” Wahab added.
