An Afghan woman who sought refuge in Australia was allegedly murdered in her Ipswich home, west of Brisbane, Queensland Police said. The 23-year-old, whose name remains undisclosed, had fled violence in Afghanistan in search of safety.
Police have charged her husband and brother-in-law with murder, alleging the killing occurred during a domestic violence incident. Emergency services found the woman critically injured earlier this week. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her children were reportedly present during the attack. Child protection authorities have since intervened.
Local media say both men are in custody and will face court later this month.
“This tragedy underscores the urgent need to ensure that all women — regardless of background or immigration status — have access to safety, support and justice,” said an advocate at a local women’s shelter.
