Elder statesman Alhaji Tanko Yakasai has declared that, for now, no politician stands a better chance of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election. Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, Yakasai said Tinubu currently enjoys the backing of ministers, governors, and even support from opposition figures, making him a formidable candidate. “Who else has all what it takes to move into the contest with the kind of stamina and strength to be more successful comparatively with Tinubu,” he said.
He added that no unified position has yet emerged from the North regarding the next election. “I haven’t heard anybody making any proposition about the 2027 presidential election from Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF),” Yakasai stated, clarifying that what is often presented as the region’s stance remains “mere individual opinions.”
Yakasai emphasized that Nigerians should wait for an official northern consensus, noting, “The North alone cannot decide who becomes the president of the country.”
