A WAEC candidate was allegedly shot dead by a stray bullet fired by a police officer during a chase in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday.

One of the bullets reportedly hit the student,” a witness identified as Ajani told PUNCH. “He was on a motorcycle with his father and twin brother.”

The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

In protest, angry youths carried the student’s body to the Oyo State Secretariat in Agodi, demanding justice and calling on Governor Seyi Makinde to take immediate action.

The remains have since been deposited at Adeoyo Hospital morgue.

As of the time of reporting, police authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the fatal shooting. The incident has sparked public outrage, especially as it occurred during an ongoing national examination.
