SOKOTO — Hamdiyyah Sharif, a vocal critic of Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu, has been declared missing, her lawyer, Abba Hikima, said on Wednesday.
In a Facebook post, Hikima revealed that Sharif has not been seen since Tuesday morning.
“Hamdiyyah has been missing since 10:00 am yesterday (Tuesday). She left home to buy food stuff in Sokoto and has not been seen since,” he wrote.
Hikima added that the Sokoto State Police Command has been notified of her disappearance, though no official statement has yet been released by the authorities.
Sharif, known for her criticism of the state government, has previously faced threats, according to rights groups.
Her disappearance has sparked concern online, with activists calling for a thorough and transparent investigation.
As of press time, efforts to reach the police for an update were unsuccessful.
