The exact casualty figure remains uncertain as many people are still missing.
Suspected herdsmen launched a brutal attack on Ikobi-Ochekwu community in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State late Wednesday night, killing several residents and setting houses ablaze.
The attack, which reportedly lasted several hours, threw the village into chaos as the assailants struck under the cover of darkness, shooting sporadically at fleeing residents.
A local resident, Ochofie, told DAILY POST, “The attackers stormed the village under the cover of darkness, shooting sporadically at residents and setting houses ablaze.”
Although the exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed, sources say many remain missing.
“In the early hours of Thursday, two more bodies were discovered in nearby Ijaha, identified as Sani Ngbede and Aduba Paul Ogboyi,” another source revealed.
Among the victims was a soldier reportedly newly married, though his identity and those of others have yet to be officially confirmed by authorities. Security personnel have yet to issue a formal statement.
