Big law firm insists Trump deal is merely a 364-word Truth Social message

A&O Shearman, one of nine major law firms named in a Truth Social post by former President Donald Trump, told Congress that the 364-word post is the full extent of its agreement with Trump.

“The complete terms of the Agreement are as set forth in the four numbered paragraphs of the President’s April 11, 2025 social media post,” wrote co-general counsels William E. White and William J.F. Roll III in a May 8 letter.

The post announced that A&O Shearman and three other firms would provide $125 million each in pro bono services. However, no formal enforcement mechanism or detailed contract exists, the firm said.

“Our Firm has no other agreements other than the EEOC settlement agreement,” the letter stated.

Rep. David Min said the absence of clear terms shows “no meeting of the minds,” making the deal likely unenforceable.

A White House spokesperson claimed the deals could bring “a new era of merit and fairness,” but offered no clarification on the terms.

The Justice Department also confirmed no written agreements are on record.
