Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, despite his father’s recent defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Bello, a House of Representatives member representing Kaduna North, made the declaration at the APC National Summit in Abuja, where Tinubu was endorsed as the party’s sole 2027 candidate.
This development highlights a growing political divide within the El-Rufai family. Nasir El-Rufai left the APC in March 2025, stating the party no longer aligns with his values, and vowed to unite the opposition to defeat Tinubu. Activist Reno Omokri reacted, saying, “If El-Rufai can’t convince his son to leave Tinubu, how will he convince Nigerians?”
The split deepened in 2024 when Bashir El-Rufai, another of the former governor’s sons, accused Tinubu and Kaduna Governor Uba Sani of political intimidation. “It will happen & wallahi nothing will happen,” he tweeted.
