The Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, has reiterated the commitment of President Bola Tinubu to providing modern platforms and equipment to the Nigerian Armed Forces to effectively tackle insecurity.

Speaking during the Jumaat Service held in Abuja to commemorate the Nigerian Navy’s 69th anniversary, Matawalle highlighted recent acquisitions by the navy, including ships and helicopters, aimed at strengthening anti-crude oil theft and maritime security operations.

“A lot of platforms are going to be commissioned. So that means the government is doing wonderfully well,” he said. “Next week, I am going to Lagos to commission some of the platforms of the Nigerian Navy, which is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President.”

He encouraged naval personnel to remain disciplined and God-fearing in service.

The service is one of several events leading up to Navy Week 2025, which will conclude with the induction of helicopters on May 29 and a ceremonial sunset on June 1.
