The aim is to frustrate the process and keep these innocent people in prison as long as possible. It’s an abuse of the legal system,” one source said.

Fifteen domestic workers of former First Lady Patience Jonathan have detailed harrowing accounts of torture and coerced confessions during their ongoing trial at the Bayelsa State High Court. Vivian Golden, a defendant, testified that she was arrested in June 2019, transferred across multiple police stations, and subjected to brutal treatment by Operation Puff Adder officers.

“She was hung and beaten seriously by the police officers just because they wanted her to admit to an offense she didn’t commit. They were paid by the complainant, Patience Jonathan, to do so,” a court source revealed .

Three other defendants corroborated these claims, alleging they were hung upside down, macheted, and threatened into signing false statements. The case, delayed since 2019, has drawn condemnation for judicial inefficiency and human rights abuses.
