Liverpool is poised to secure the transfer of 22-year-old Florian Wirtz as early as Monday, according to reports. Bayern Munich’s president Herbert Hainer confirmed that Wirtz favors a move to Merseyside over Munich. “[Bayern chief] Max Eberl informed me that Florian Wirtz is probably leaning towards Liverpool,” Hainer said.

Bayer Leverkusen, Wirtz’s club since 2020, face losing one of Germany’s top attacking talents but are “delighted” that he will not join a direct Bundesliga rival. The £126 million asking price may be softened with add-ons to reach a quick agreement, aided by the smooth Frimpong deal between the clubs.

Wirtz, who scored twice for Germany at Euro 2024, has netted 57 goals in 197 games for Leverkusen and can play multiple attacking roles.
