“China is actually now in a clean energy revolution… and in Africa, they decided to focus on Nigeria,” Sule said. “They are looking at Nigeria as an undisputed leader when it comes to the West African market.”
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has said China’s interest in Nigeria’s lithium is due to the country’s position as a leader in the West African market. He made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
“China is actually now in a clean energy revolution… and in Africa, they decided to focus on Nigeria,” Sule said. “They are looking at Nigeria as an undisputed leader when it comes to the West African market.”
He highlighted Nigeria’s population of over 220 million and its GDP nearing $480 billion as major attractions.
Sule added that lithium, found in Nasarawa and other parts of Nigeria, could replace oil as the country’s main revenue source. “This is another oil that is coming,” he said.
He also noted that although lithium projects may not create as many jobs as agriculture, the skills gained by workers would aid economic growth and development.
