The case could overshadow Tinubu’s 2027 reelection campaign.
An American law firm has Initiated legal proceedings to compel Chicago State University (CSU) to revoke President Bola Tinubu’s only known academic qualification over alleged forgery. Options Law Group, P.C., acting on behalf of the Nigerian civic group Centre for Reform and Public Advocacy, accused Mr Tinubu of submitting falsified high school records for admission into CSU in 1977.
“Our client has presented facts which a reasonable person can conclude that Bola A. Tinubu misrepresented material and misleading facts on admission application,” a letter to the Illinois attorney-general stated.
The firm threatened legal action after CSU reportedly ignored several demand letters.
“The U.S. judicial system has no tolerance for frivolous expeditions,” Tinubu’s lawyer Oluwole Afolabi countered. “This is a matter that has been litigated to the fullest.”
The civic group insists Tinubu’s degree, obtained under false pretenses, should be revoked—raising serious implications for his 2027 reelection bid.
