The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) tariffs are now gazetted to unlock lower rates for Nigerian exporters
The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a strategic partnership with Uganda Airlines aimed at linking Nigerian goods to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) markets, significantly reducing air cargo rates by 50 to 75 percent. The initiative, announced on Sunday by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, will provide Nigerian exporters with access to three major African hubs: Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa.
The cost reduction will include cuts in regulatory charges, facilitating more affordable logistics for exporters. “We flag off a bold new pathway connecting Nigerian goods to the AfCFTA market through a strategic partnership with Uganda Airlines. The new air corridor will provide Nigerian exporters with access to three key African hubs, Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa,” Oduwole stated via her official X (formerly Twitter) account.
The AfCFTA tariffs have been gazetted to enable lower rates for exporters. The inaugural flights launched on Sunday will support the export of textiles, bags, cosmetics, agro-products, and more.
