Over 45% of Nigerian engineers, architects, and planners now use AI daily—more than any other country surveyed—according to a new global report.
Nigerian engineers and city planners ranked highest globally for daily use of artificial intelligence (AI) in urban planning and infrastructure, a new survey by UK-based Arup has revealed.
Arup surveyed 5,000 professionals across ten major economies, including Nigeria, China, the U.S., and Germany. It found that 46% of Nigerian respondents used AI daily, surpassing Brazil (42%) and the U.S. (42%).
Generative AI, data analytics, and simulations were preferred tools, while chatbot use remained low. Nigerian professionals mostly applied AI in design modelling and scenario planning.
Interestingly, 31% of Nigerian respondents “strongly agreed” that the country was ahead globally in AI adoption—third behind Australia and the U.S.
Despite being Africa’s largest economy, Nigeria’s GDP ($477 billion) remains the smallest among the surveyed nations.
Arup’s Will Cavendish noted: “It’s evident that this is an industry… ensuring that AI systems are safe, fair and subject to human oversight.”
Meanwhile, 91% of respondents urged sector-specific AI regulation to ensure ethical usage.
