“Members took the immediate decision to suspend action so they could provide full support.”
A planned strike by over 50 Unite members at Royal Liverpool University Hospital was suspended following a major incident linked to Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade.
The workers, all from the microbiology department at Liverpool Clinical Laboratories, had been set to walk out on Tuesday over staffing shortages and workload concerns.
Unite regional officer Derek Jones said, “Following yesterday’s tragic events in Liverpool, members took the immediate decision to suspend action so they could provide full support to the major incident which has been declared by the hospital trust.”
Jones added, “The dispute is not over and more action is planned – but we are urging Liverpool Clinical Laboratories to come back to the table and commit to addressing the problems with staffing and overwork.”
The hospital trust confirmed it is currently managing the declared major incident while continuing discussions with staff.
