Bayern Munich are lining up a summer move for Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo after Florian Wirtz indicated a preference for Anfield, derailing Bayern’s plans to sign a new No.10.
Bayern Munich are preparing a surprise move for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo after missing out on top target Florian Wirtz, according to Mirror Football.
The Bundesliga giants had prioritised Bayer Leverkusen star Wirtz as their new No.10 but have reportedly accepted defeat, with the 22-year-old now leaning towards joining Liverpool. Bayern’s president, Herbert Hainer, confirmed that Wirtz had informed sporting director Max Eberl of his Anfield preference.
As a result, Bayern have shifted their focus to signing a left-sided forward, with Gakpo fitting the profile. The 26-year-old Dutchman was instrumental in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign, contributing 25 goals and assists in 49 games.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot is reluctant to sell Gakpo, but an offer exceeding £75 million could tempt club officials, especially with uncertainty surrounding Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.
Bayern are also monitoring Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao. Meanwhile, Liverpool remain active in the market, pursuing Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Wirtz.
