Wike ignores Tinubu’s order, halts FIRS activities again

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has been accused of ignoring President Bola Tinubu’s directive and disrupting Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) operations for a second consecutive day.

Despite Tinubu’s order halting property sealings over unpaid ground rents, FCTA officials allegedly stormed the FIRS headquarters on Tuesday. Arabinrin Aderonke, technical assistant to FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji, said the agency is not a defaulter, yet officials caused mayhem and assaulted staff.

“Despite PBAT’s yesterday order directing FCTA to give 14-day grace to defaulters, although FIRS isn’t a defaulter, FCTA returned to FIRS Hq to cause mayhem,” Ms Aderonke wrote on X. “My colleague, SA Protocol to FIRS Chairman, was beaten by an officer of NSCDC with bruises and blood all over his body.”

Online reactions condemned the incident. “This madness must stop,” wrote @YoungLobzy, while @mamatii001 called the act “extreme.”

Wike earlier ordered sealings including PDP’s HQ before Tinubu intervened, granting time to settle dues and update documents.
